LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR PATERSON ANNOUNCES ROADMAP TO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION IN NEW YORK

Recommendations include more solar energy, funding the state’s program to get 25 percent of our electricity from renewable energy, and new business incentives to attract renewable energy companies and create “green” jobs
Lieutenant Governor David A. Paterson, Chairman of the State’s Renewable Energy Task Force, today announced 16 Task Force recommendations as part of a roadmap to significantly increase renewable energy generation in New York. These first recommendations include more solar energy production funding the state’s program to get 25 percent of New York's electricity from renewable energy by 2013 and new business incentives targeted to attract renewable energy producers and expand the State’s “green collar” workforce.

Representatives of New York’s agricultural industry gathered today at a Central New York dairy farm to announce their support for Governor Spitzer’s comprehensive plan to revitalize the Upstate economy. Nearly 150 farmers, agriculture-industry leaders and agri-businesses throughout Upstate New York pledged to support the Governor’s $1 billion Upstate Revitalization Fund, which includes a $50 million Upstate Agriculture Economic Development Fund.

Governor Eliot Spitzer today announced three appointments to the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission. Joan K. Davidson was appointed Chair and Margaret Gibbs was appointed a member. Governor Spitzer also announced that Martin Ginsburg will be appointed as a member. The Commission was established to commemorate the upcoming 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s and Samuel de Champlain’s voyages along the river and lake that bear their names. It is also focused on organizing a celebration of the 200th anniversary of Fulton’s successful establishment of steam commerce on the Hudson River

Housing advocates, developers, community and business leaders applauded the Governor’s historic $400 million Housing Opportunity Fund, which was announced during the State of the State address last week. State Forms Broadband Council to Support Key Component of “I Live NY” Initiative
Governor Eliot Spitzer and First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer today announced the formation of the New York State Council for Universal Broadband, which is charged with developing strategies to ensure every New Yorker has access to affordable, high-speed Internet service. Additionally, a Request for Proposals will be released on Friday, December 7th, to begin the process of distributing funds that were allocated in this year’s budget for competitive grants to research, design and implement accessible Internet for unserved and underserved areas of rural and urban New York. Governor Spitzer made the announcement at the New York Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting, held this year at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Increased access to broadband service combined with digital literacy programs can dramatically improve social, cultural and educational opportunities that ultimately lead to increased job creation and economic development. This Universal Broadband initiative is a key component of the First Lady’s I Live New York initiative aimed at attracting and retaining New York’s next generation.

Governor Eliot Spitzer and First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer today joined Congressman Steve Israel in highlighting the importance of “green” construction – a key component of the administration's energy conservation agenda. Congressman Israel's initiative would provide incentives in the form of federal matching funds to school districts implementing state guidelines through investment in energy efficiency upgrades and the use of renewable energy technology. The summit held at Farmingdale State College detailed the resources available for green construction and the importance of teaching energy efficiency and environmental responsibility in schools.

QCTAP builds upon Department of State local government training programs to provide expertise to communities statewide. In applying the QC principles, communities are encouraged to discuss issues, create a vision and implement plans more effectively. An assessment team also can meet with a municipality at their request, to deliver more direct attention and custom-tailored advice. Staff coordinate among assistance programs of 25 other state agencies to bring the strongest team approach to your local problem-solving and planning needs.
